West is Best (You decide)South West Oz – The path less known
Western Australia could nearly be its own country, especially when you consider the capital of Perth is 4-5 hours flight from Sydney, and nearly 4 hours from the nearest capital city in Adelaide. Perth has boomed in the last decade, and is a modern & very beautiful city set on the swan river, and has arguable some of Australia’s best city beaches in Scarborough, Cottesloe and Trigg. A few days and nights to explore Perth is essential and for any backpacker consider Perth as a destination there is heaps of casual work available in cafes and bars due to the booming economy, but there is also a skills shortage, so for example, a carpenter could get a good short term contract here to save to extend the Australian backpacking experience. The local tourism website has some up to date articles on Perth and the surrounding areas but also whats on right now – whats happening in Western Australia ? Kajakman recommends Billabong resort in Perth for a cool location, great staff and a nice pool to cool off – Billabong Walking around the metropolis city enjoying the views from Kings park is a must, as looking at the city over the Swan is exceptional viewing. Another day could be spend at Scarborough beach or Cottesloe beach, which are about 25mins by bus from the city, and these both propose a magnificent sunset, as remember the sun sets over the West in Australia Heading dow the coast you hit the most beautiful nature and scenery in the world! While tourism is strong in the west, its still so far from the East that a lot of people dont travel here, a huge mistake according to kajakman. While there are amazing places all the way down the coastline, Kajakman is give some info of my favourite destinations. 3 hours drive South of Perth isMargaret River. A famous surf break in itself, Margaret River has it all. A hip surf culture, amazing accommodation, famous wineries, incrediblebeautiful beaches, and somehow you manage to find one to yourself and think why dont more people come here ? Nearby Dunsborough is equally amazing with the same traits as Margs. In Margs defo check outMargaret River Backpackers and in Dunsborough head to dunsborough beach house which is a 20minute walk from town but set on its own private beach front, you’ll spend your arvo playing table tennis and sipping on cold beers sharing travel stories in this multicultural and very popular hostel. A great place to meet people!! The tree top walk not far from Margs is worth a visit too! Albany Continuing South along the coast you will eventually hit Albany & Esperance. An interesting history, Albany is situated on the southern coast of Western Australia about 4 hour 45 minutes from Perth by road and the Convict history set against a backdrop of rugged coastline, wild deep blue seas and pristine beauty in Nature . A step back in time to confront the main reason for settlement in Albany, Whaling, and Kajakman got a real sense of how things must have been in this industry. In addition exploring convict jails, old taverns, actual whaling ships and settlers cottages is one incredible reason to visit Albany, but the forests, beaches and deep blue ocean have you in ore of the magic of the world as we know it. In a surreal vision, whale watching is now very common between the May/June through to October in the waters and bays were they were once prey…its just inspiring to anyone wanting to mix culture, history with modern day original landscapes as you will be blown away! Whale world to know more and Kajakman stayed at Albany Backpackers and was very pleasant with amazing location and views. And now to completely top off your South West Oz Adventured you must camp at Lucky Bay near Esperance. 5kms of the whitest sand in this world, authentic bush walking tracks and the clearest bluey green waters you will ever cool off in….its simply stunning!!! Your have to spend a few nights at Lucky Bay and Kajakman promises you wont regret doing so…..get the real Aussie backpacking and camping experience by making sure you do this, I cant stress it enough! http://www.australiasgoldenoutback.com/ |
