Airlines to Melbourne

Melbourne International Airport is Australia’s second busiest airport. You will be able to fly direct to Melbourne from every capital city and nearly every town that has a airport in Australia. Melbourne has two airports that service the city. The biggest airport is Melbourne Tullamarine airport which is about 20- 25 minutes to the city centre. Melbourne’s other airport is Avalon airport. Avalon is situated 40 minutes from the city but is only 15 minutes from Melbourne’s second biggest city Geelong.

At the moment Avalon is only serviced by Jetstar but that should change soon with Avalon spending 30 million dollars on expansions and rumours that Air Asia X will start international flights to Avalon in 2008 from Kuala Lumper.

Tigerairways has set up their base at Tullamarine airport which has begun a massive airfare war in and out of Melbourne. Currently Melbourne would be the cheapest city in Australia to fly in or out of.

So the 3 major budget airlines that service Melbourne are Jetstar, Tigerairways and Virginblue.

Qantas are also very big players in the Melbourne market. Although not a budget airline they do have some very cheap flights.

Airfares from Melbourne to Sydney – this is one of the busiest routes in the world. Currently only Qantas and Virginblue service this route with flights leaving every 15 minutes. Jetstar do fly to Sydney from Avalon and this is a cheaper option. The cheapest fares on offer will be around $59 to $79. The cheapest time to fly this leg is when business people wont be etc very late at night or around midday.

Airfares from Melbourne to Brisbane are also only serviced by Qantas and Virginblue. Jetstar fly to Brisbane from Avalon. Flights from Melbourne to Brisbane can be got from as little as $89 to $109. Remember Tigerairways, Jetstar and Virginblue also fly to the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast which is only one hour away from Brisbane and are great destinations to check out.
